Clarity Practices for Better Meetings
Clarity is not just for branding, marketing, and selling. It is a key component to making meetings far more effective. Here’s how:
1. Start with a Clear Purpose
Before hitting “send” on that calendar invite, ask: What exactly are we trying to accomplish that can’t be done another way?
✅ Is it to decide, align, solve, or share something complex?
If not, skip the meeting.
2. Invite Only for Impact
Be clear about who really needs to be there:
Who has the info?
Who can decide?
Who will follow through?
Who will actively contribute?
Clarity of roles = fewer wasted hours.
3. End with Focused Reflection
Ditch “Any questions?” and close with one of these clarity-building prompts:
“What decisions still feel fuzzy?”
“What’s our next move after this?”
“Who else needs to know what we decided?”
⚡️Quick Clarity Tactic:
At the start of your next meeting, say:
“By the end of this call, we need to ______.” (Fill in the blank with one specific goal: make a decision, finalize a plan, assign owners.)
At the end of your next meeting, say:
“Here’s the summary of what we covered, what agreements we reached, and what actions need to be taken (and by whom).” And write down the summary to be forwarded!
Clarity isn’t just for customers — it’s the secret to productive meetings, as well.
Confusion costs time. Clarity creates momentum.
