A Great Use of AI in Training

“…and go ahead and use Copilot to help you.”

I took a deep breath and uttered the words (above) that I’d never before spoken in a client workshop.

It was a virtual session, and we were about to send the participants into breakouts. I had been facilitating a discussion about using “Memory Darts”* - vivid, short word forms like illustrations, analogies, comparisons, etc - and I wanted the breakout groups to try to explain a complex corporate initiative into a simpler, more compelling form.

Because not everyone has a creative mind about such things, I invited the groups to employ an AI engine (MS Copilot in their case) to help them come up with ideas.

Risky. But, it turns out…a great move!

Twenty-five minutes later, they came out of those virtual breakout rooms grinning and full of energy, and the concepts and visuals the teams had come up with were outstanding! I was so excited by the results - it was the highlight of the entire three-hour session.

I knew from my own experience how powerful Generative AI can be in this sort of creative exercise, but I’d never before dared incorporate it “in the wild” in a workshop. Now I’m quite sure I’ll use it regularly.

Lesson: When it comes to ideation for training, marketing, and (really) all forms of communication, if you need to punch up your wording to make it more vivid, AI engines are waiting to help you.
