Moving North…Again
I can’t seem to make up my mind.
I started life in the great state of Connecticut, where my roots will always be. But after high school, with a scholarship in hand, I decided to move south (Tennessee) for college at Vanderbilt. Four amazing years were spent acclimating to the mid-South, but this was followed by another move - north - for a year while my soon-to-be-wife finished her last year at UConn. And what did we do directly after our honeymoon?
Moved south to Nashville, of course. For three years. Followed, of course, by another move north, to serve a 30-year sentence exiled in New Jersey (it was only supposed to be 4 years…life gets complicated).
Never feeling like we “fit” there in Jerz, we decided to do a Shawshank and escape back to the South…and landed once again in the Nashville area (the historic city/town of Franklin, 20 miles south of Nashville) almost 12 years ago. And we absolutely loved it there. Franklin is a great town, full of family values, creative people, historic sites, and wonderful shops (especially coffee shops). But it’s gotten awfully crowded and quite expensive, and we’re ready to downsize.
And so, now we’ve moved north AGAIN. Well, OK, only 30 miles north, to the quiet little town of Ridgetop. Peace, quiet, and lots of trees. This is where we intend to stay for the foreseeable future - no traffic. No HOA. No hordes of tourists. Closer to our grandkids, and still near everything middle TN has to offer.
So, it’s yo-yo no more, the Lord willing. Though I do miss the coffee shops…
As for me, I will continue my clarity consulting work/mission/passion, and my wife and I are hoping to use this new home for regular hospitality, so if you’re heading on over to Nashville, we’re even closer to the airport and downtown than before. C’mon over and sit for a spell in relaxing Ridgetop.
