How A Deep-Seated Frustration Drives Me

My Dad had ideas. He was creative, inventive. But he never had a chance to shine in the broader world.

Willis James Woodruff was a draftsman - his career for decades. He toiled obscurely in a somewhat obscure company, doing work that really didn’t tap into some of his better talents.

However, without a college degree and with a family to provide for, he had to confine his creative energies to tinkering in his shed. Some of his projects were rudimentary, even amusing…but a few of them bordered on genius level.

But neither his work nor his hidden talents would be on display for the wider world. He was stuck in a role with no challenge or advancement. And that frustrated me, as I reflected on it later in my life:

Being “stuck” in our profession is a fate we want to avoid when at all possible!

As an adult, I was driven by many positive ideals (and still am). But simmering underneath that was this burning determination not to be stuck in a job that didn’t provide the latitude to use everything God had given me. Over the last 40+ years of my career, I saw many people all around me, frustrated and stuck, and underutilized in their jobs

This deeply bothered me.

That eventually led me, 20 years ago, to strike out on my own as a solopreneur. To create a role and a company and a mission that was solely built around me, and my perception of the world’s needs. To tap into whatever unique talents I possessed without being blunted by a structure full of confinements.

I wanted to be free to flourish, and to help others also find their ideal path. That’s what led me to become a Clarity Advisor.

Fortunately, this decision was made as the internet and social media were exploding, and it was relatively easy to launch out on a wing and a prayer and carve a new path. Looking back now, I’d do a hundred things differently, but I remain on my mission - to help hundreds, maybe even thousands, find their purpose and identity and message, so that THEY can be unstuck, and pursue their highest calling.

I’ve sought to turn this deep-seated frustration into success for others. There are millions of talented people who aren’t reaching their personal and professional potential. I’m on a mission to change that. One person, one team, one company at a time.
